Coffee World’s Continued Support for Tawfiq Orphanage with new bunk beds for its growing number of children & transforming its common room with art by local artists.
June 2024 marked our third & fourth projects with the Tawfiq Orphanage in Mwanza, Tanzania, a place close to our hearts. Earlier this year, we sponsored chickens to provide a sustainable source of food and income, and we helped Mama Shakira and the children with a new eco-stove, transforming their cooking experience. This time, we turned our attention to another essential need: safe and comfortable sleeping arrangements for the children and transforming their dull, unpainted common room with art by local artists.
The beds:
The bunk beds at the orphanage had seen better days. Two of the metal beds had rusted, and the ladders were positioned incorrectly, causing the children to fall. The deteriorating joints posed a danger, sometimes collapsing when the children played on them. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Coffee World stepped in to fund the repair of these beds, ensuring they were safe and sturdy once again.
In addition to the repairs, we also funded the construction of two new bunk beds. These beds would provide much-needed sleeping space for the older boys, who had recently moved into a newly constructed room outside the main house. This addition was crucial in giving the children a comfortable and safe environment to rest and grow.
The impact of these improvements cannot be overstated. A good night’s sleep is fundamental to a child’s health and development. With the refurbished and new beds, the children at Tawfiq Orphanage can now sleep soundly, without the fear of falling or the beds collapsing. This simple yet significant change has brought immense relief and joy to the orphanage, creating a more secure and nurturing environment for the children. By addressing such essential needs, we are not just providing furniture; we are building a foundation for these children to dream, learn, and thrive.
Transforming the common room:
We also embarked on a vibrant project to transform the orphanage’s common room. This space, essential for meals and studying, was in dire need of a facelift. To achieve this, we enlisted the help of local artists to cover the plain, unpainted walls with educational and bright artwork.
The transformation of the common room has had a profound impact on the children and the entire orphanage community. Bright colors and engaging designs now adorn the walls, creating an inviting and stimulating environment. The children are now surrounded by images that spark curiosity and encourage learning, making education a constant and accessible part of their daily lives. This vibrant environment fosters creativity and positivity, helping to create a nurturing space where young minds can flourish.
Beyond the immediate benefits to the children, this project also supports and uplifts the local artist community. By hiring local artists, Coffee World Change provided them with an opportunity to showcase their talent and contribute to a meaningful cause. This collaboration highlights the importance of supporting local economies and recognizing the value of artistic expression in community development.
