April 2025 Coffee World Change Initiative – Making a Difference: Coffee World’s Ongoing Commitment to Young Teens In Talent Meal Programme
At Coffee World, we believe in the power of community and the importance of investing in the next generation and we are able to achieve this through our Coffee World Change initiative. Coffee World Change allocates 1% of our prior year’s profits to projects that uplift and empower communities within coffee producing countries, specifically in East Africa.
This month, we are thrilled to share that Coffee World has once again partnered with Young Teens In Talent (YTIT), a dance school and community hub based in Mathare slums, Nairobi, Kenya that works to empower and support over 80 children and young adults through nurturing their talent. This April, we have extended our on-going support to YTIT’s vital meal program that provides meals for its >80 members.
April happens to be a critical school holiday month when children are off school and as a result, lose access to regular school meals. April, August, and November are crucial months for YTIT as the practice and events schedule is packed, and sessions are often back-to-back. The children spend a large proportion of their time at the studio or at events during these months, and its vital to ensure they are well nourished (especially when a daily meal is not always guaranteed at home). This month, Coffee World Change will support YTIT with the provision of meals to their 80 members for at least 5 days a week, adding up to over 1600 meals.
These meals help create a safe space where kids can gather, share their experiences, and build friendships amidst the challenges they face. The 80 members therefore not only benefit from the nutrition provided but also from the sense of belonging, positivity, and encouragement that YTIT fosters, beyond just being an organisation that manages and fosters young talent.
Our support for YTIT comes at a time when Nairobi is being lashed by heavy rains and deadly flooding and landslides are common. It also comes just a month after deadly fires in Mathare than engulfed hundreds of homes, leaving many families with nowhere to go. Although the challenges of life in the slums of Nairobi are sometimes inconceivable for us, what is apparent is the immense value of the work being done by YTIT and its impact on not just the children and young people they support, but their families and wider community, too. The work done by Young Teens In Talent is nothing short of inspiring and they need all the support they can get to keep uplifting youth in their community of Mathare.
It’s our hope that by supporting initiatives like the YTIT meal program, we can inspire others to take action and make a difference in the lives of those in need. As we share yet another month of giving, we invite you to join us in celebrating the powerful impact that community support can have. We’re all in this together, and we encourage you to think about ways to get involved—whether through donations, collaborations, or simply spreading the word about YTIT and their mission.
Thank you to all our customers for your continued support, and let’s keep the momentum going. Cheers to a month of nourishment, kindness, and empowerment!
At Coffee World, our passion for coffee is matched only by our dedication to making a positive impact on the world. As an independent, family-run coffee company based in Cambridge, UK, we are committed to giving back to the communities that nurture our beloved coffee beans. Our initiative, Coffee World Change, allocates 1% of the prior year’s profits to projects that uplift and empower coffee belt communities.
This July, we are thrilled to share the story of our sixth initiative in 2024, where we extend our support to a remarkable talent management organization in Nairobi, Kenya, called Young TIT. Founded by the inspiring Moses, Young TIT is located in Mathare, a slum where unemployment rates are high and many children are out of school due to financial constraints.
Moses, a dedicated dancer and part-time dance teacher, established Young TIT with a vision to empower the youth in his community through the art of dance. Beyond teaching dance, Moses uses his salary and any sponsorship funds to provide daily meals, pay school fees, and cover other essential costs for the young crew members. His dedication and the transformative power of dance have brought hope and purpose to many young lives in Mathare.
Recognizing the incredible work of Young TIT, Coffee World Change is proud to sponsor meals for the young dancers throughout July and August. These months are particularly crucial as August is a holiday month, leading to higher attendance at dance sessions and increased demand for meals. For many of these children, the meals provided by Young TIT are a vital lifeline, ensuring they have the nourishment they need to thrive both physically and mentally.
The impact of our support extends far beyond just providing meals. By alleviating the financial burden of feeding the young dancers, we enable Moses to focus more on his mission of empowering these teens through dance. This initiative not only helps to keep the children engaged and off the streets but also fosters a sense of community and belonging, offering them a safe space to express themselves and grow.
At Coffee World, we believe in the transformative power of the arts and the importance of nurturing young talent. By supporting Young TIT, we are investing in the future of these children, giving them the opportunity to dream big and achieve their potential. The joy and confidence that dance brings to their lives are immeasurable, and we are honored to be a part of their journey.
As always, we are deeply grateful to our customers and community, whose continued support is central to the impact that Coffee World Change has had, even just 6 months since its launch. Every cup of our coffee you enjoy contributes to the small ripples of positive change we make in communities like Mathare.
