February 2025 Coffee World Change Initiative – A Kitchen Full of Hope For Island Muslim Girls Orphanage
At Coffee World, we believe in the power of small, consistent change. Each year, we dedicate a portion of our profits to support a specific monthly project—whether it’s education, meals or empowering parents – and update you on the difference your coffee and coffee-related purchases are making.
In May, we turned our attention back to the Island Muslim Girls Orphanage’s second branch, where we’ve been helping to build a proper, energy-efficient kitchen (a project we focussed on in March 25). This month, thanks to your support, we were able to fund the final stages—painting and tiling—to get the kitchen ready for everyday use.
From Open Flame to Fully Functional
The transformation is incredible. The old cooking space was outdoors, cobbled together with wood and exposed on three sides to wind and rain. Cooking for over 100 girls was often unsafe or simply impossible in bad weather. The new kitchen is enclosed, weatherproof, and designed with energy-saving equipment, safer electrical systems, and proper plumbing. It’s a space where meals can be made with dignity, safety, and consistency—no matter the weather.
This upgrade will directly benefit 140 girls:
- 20 resident girls who live full-time at the second branch,
- 60 day students who come for school during the week, and
- 60 girls from the Nyali branch, who stay here during school holidays.
For many of these girls, access to consistent, warm meals in a clean environment is life-changing.
