Fueling Holiday Dreams: Nourishing Young Talent in Mathare this August
At Coffee World, we know that the most important ingredient in any community isn’t just the coffee—it’s the energy that fuels it. And for growing kids with big dreams, that energy comes from nutritious food. This August, as Kenyan schools entered a key holiday period, our Coffee World Change programme focused on a vital, daily need for the almost 90 children and young adults at Young Teens in Talent, a dance studio and community hub that our business has supported on an on-going basis.
The Coffee World Change initiative is how we dedicate a percentage of our annual profits to creating tangible impact in East African communities. This August, that commitment translated directly into meals, supporting the incredible hustle of the holiday season at the Young Teens In Talent studio in Mathare.
For the 80+ children there, school holidays like August, April, and November are not a break; they are a time for intense creativity. The studio buzzes with activity seven days a week, filled with dance rehearsals, modelling practice, and the joyful noise of a community coming together. This level of activity requires sustained energy, and that’s where Coffee World Change was proud to continue to step in.`
Throughout August, the funding provided the daily meals that kept this creative engine running.
- On weekdays, this meant providing for small, sustaining meals from local kiosks, offering a quick and reliable bite that kept the kids going between sessions.
- On weekends, the support transformed into something more communal: funding the ingredients for a generous, cooked meal prepared at the studio. These shared meals are more than just food; they are a time for bonding, laughter, and building the family spirit that defines Young Teens In Talent.
The month was even busier than usual, as the studio hosted a special 6-day camp for 36 external members, with sessions and auditions for new joiners. Our support helped ensure that every single child present, whether a regular or a newcomer, felt welcomed and nourished.
By committing to funding meals during these key holiday months, Coffee World Change aims to provide a stable foundation. It’s about removing the worry of hunger so that the incredible team, led by Moses, can focus on what they do best: nurturing talent and providing a safe haven.
