This course is ideal for a home enthusiast or someone just curious as to how their favourite coffees are made. If you’re pulling sour shots, inconsistent milk steaming or just want to get started then the Barista Basics is the course for you.
We’ll start with a look into basic coffee terminology with a brief explanation of what they all mean so that you have enough to hold your own with even the most tattooed barista. From there we move into the numbers and weights behind delivering the perfect espresso and drive home how important adjusting your grinder is to your shots.
Next up is an introduction to milk steaming and texturing with a big focus on drinks assembly giving you the chance to get hands on making your own cappuccino, latte or flat white. As we then wind down the course we go through cleaning and maintaining your machines and give you the opportunity to really test your trainer with any questions you may have.
After Completion You Can:
Be able to confidently differentiate between arabica and robusta coffee.
Explain where coffee is grown and how it is farmed and processed.
Know what light and dark roast coffees are and the differences between them.

Jake is a great teacher, clearly passionate about all aspects of coffee and keen to share his knowledge. I attended the Barista Basics & Barista Advanced – both fabulous courses delivered with enthusiasm and I learnt so much from the origins to latte art. Its a fun way to learn in a great environment and Jake was excellent.

Attended the Barista Basics course with Jake, I was in awe of his passion and enthusiasm for coffee. His knowledge of the product and nuances around brewing, milk steaming and latte art was contagious. But Jake also stressed the importance of basic hygiene and cleaning of your machine, which if not done, will compromise the flavour of the coffee and the performance of the machine. And that goat farmer who discovered the bean…………Jeff Bezos eat your heart out.
