This AA fully washed lot is from Kainamui washing station, one of 3 factories managed by New Ngariama Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS) in Kirinyaga county, situated in Kenya's central highlands. Kainamui was established in 1963, the same year Kenya declared independence – that’s over 80 years of experience and passion poured into every bean.

The factory is managed by Patrick Njogu and works with 1800 smallholder farms, 600 of which are women owned and operated. Each farm often has as little as 200 coffee trees planted on just half a hectare of land, with elevations up to 1800 masl. Gravellea, macadamia nuts, eucalyptus, tea, corn, and bananas are all planted as secondary crops. They all play a key role: bringing in additional income, nurturing the soil’s micronutrients and providing shade to the coffee shrubs allowing them to flourish.

Every sip of this gorgeous Kenyan is full of rich full bodied fruitiness - think fresh stewed blackcurrants and green apples, with a smooth vanilla undertone to round everything out.

Espresso: 18g dose of coffee to make 50g of espresso in 28-32s

Filter: We like to use V60 for this coffee:

Pre-wet filter paper – 22g medium coarse coffee grounds, 350g 96 °C water, 3 pours.

Pour 1: 66g fast flow circle pour

Pour 2: 45s, Pour to 250g – fast flow circle pours – should finish at 1 min.

Pour 3: 1 min 30s, Pour to 350g – fast flow circle pours – should finish at 1 min 40s.

All the coffee to draw down, decant & enjoy!

The best recipe for any coffee depends on the equipment, water and preparation being used to make it. We encourage you to experiment and fine tune our suggestions to your preferences.
